God is My Companion

My heart is troubled these days. I've been juggling multiple roles in one time. All of these roles demands time and effort. I've been really troubled as it affects my sleep and sometimes my productivity.

Yet last week, when I started to gain back my track in listening to God's words daily, my heartaches started to be light.

Today, while decluttering items in my room, I've stumbled upon my unopened worship books, and decided to open it again, and start to know the reason why I bought them. I bought them because I want to be closer to God. I bought it because reading it calms me and rewires my brain on what are my priorities in life.

I believe stumbling upon them today, is the way of God saying to me, "My Child you've been astray for too long, let me help you carry your burdens. Come to me for anything. I am always with you."

Thank you Lord for today and for everything.

Core Memory Retraced

Pain. Sorrow. Dread. Fear.

These are the overwhelming emotions that grip you when a loved one—especially a parent—is hospitalized.

Fifteen years ago, my mom was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. When I heard the news, I broke down. I cried out of sheer terror of losing her, knowing how unforgiving cancer can be. Going to the hospital during midterm week filled me with dread; seeing my mom so frail, hooked up to endless wires, broke my heart. Around that time, our family’s finances began to dwindle. My parents were both rank-and-file government employees, and balancing checkups, lab tests, prescriptions, tuition, rent, and utilities was a heavy burden. I prayed endlessly for God’s protection and grace. Fortunately, after a mastectomy and a cycle of chemotherapy, my mom was declared cancer-free.

Though she had to limit her travel, she returned to work in person—this was long before work-from-home setups existed. She continued her quarterly checkups with her oncologist, and for a while, life found a steady rhythm.

But late 2015 into 2016 brought our most dreadful nightmare: the cancer had metastasized to her supraclavicular lymph nodes and lungs. It was now Stage IV. After enduring two full cycles of intravenous chemotherapy, her doctor recommended a third. My mom hesitated, deeply worried about the financial strain it would place on our family. My dad, my sister, her siblings, and I tried desperately to convince her, promising we would find a way to fund it. But she gently refused.

Shortly after returning to our home province, she struggled to breathe, and our emergency oxygen tank wasn't enough. My father called an ambulance, and she was admitted to the local provincial hospital. Because certain medications weren't available locally, I needed to travel to the mainland to buy them. Before leaving, I asked her if she needed anything else. She simply smiled and said everything was already on the list.

I took a ship and a bus to the city, bought her meds at the clinic, and went to work the next day. As a Job Order employee, "no work" meant "no pay," and I desperately wanted to earn whatever I could for her medicines. It seemed like a routine day—I focused on my tasks, balancing ledgers, processing purchase orders, and answering phones. Then, a call came from my aunt asking for my mom’s best friend—who also happened to be my co-worker and godmother. Thinking it was work-related, I passed the line. Moments later, my godmother pulled me aside.

My mom had been moved to the ICU.

Tears flooded my eyes as panic set in. She had never needed the ICU before. Deep down, I knew that anything out of the ordinary was a terrifying sign.

My godmother immediately filed for leave and traveled back to the province with me. We arrived before noon, and I was allowed inside. She was already unconscious. I leaned in and whispered my promises to her, sensing in my heart that she was preparing to leave us. Afterward, we stepped out for lunch, but as we walked back through the hospital gates, my phone rang—we needed to hurry. My mom was fading fast.

By the time we reached her room, she had joined our Creator.

I will never forget my nine-year-old brother punching the wall in tears, crying, "You said Mom was going to be okay!"Seeing an innocent child lose his mother at such a young age hurt worse than anything. I held him close. From that moment on, he wouldn't leave my side, as if knowing I had to stay with Mama to prepare for her wake at the morgue and funeral parlor.

In the years since, it is God’s grace, our prayers, and the unwavering support of family and friends that have carried us through.

Marking her 10th death anniversary recently made me realize just how fast time moves. People often say that "time heals all wounds," but my truth is different: time doesn't heal wounds—it just teaches you how to live with them. The pain and sorrow linger, especially during family gatherings. Yet, I take comfort in knowing she is happy in the arms of the Lord, forever free from pain.

To be better is to be self-aware

Better. What do you mean by that? Does it mean you're inferior? Why do you say so? How can you be better, if that's the case.

We all are clamoring to live in a better life, to have that life that we dreamt of. What's your basis of a better life? We keep on comparing ourselves to other people's achievements. Oftentimes, we deny it, but we keep saying "sana all", and then afterwards chuckle with what we've said, attempting to hide the hint of jealousy.

In this digital time, the social network sites (SNS) have defined and amplified our desires to have that ideal life. Before this digital age, we are blind on how our relatives or friends in far flung places are doing. Currently, we've seen pictures, posts, reels and videos of them in SNS. But oops, people in general, only posts what they want you to see.

Say for example, you've always seen their reels of beach vibes, "pabukid", or self-loved content. It's not that they are not doing anything meaningful or in Visayan dialect and you say, "kahayahay ba sa ila kinabuhi uy, sige ra man laag, kita ani..." (how good their life is, they always roam around and enjoy, compared to us...). Always remember, you don't know what's the whole story. Maybe they just want to share with you the places they've been. Maybe they just want to document and cherish each moments by making their SNS as their digital album. Maybe they're roaming around, because they want a breather from stress.

In reality engaging in such posts, or feeling a little jealous of what other people have are not totally bad at all. Say if you've seen their posts, you'll be inspired to achieve that enjoyment, to visit places, to improve your current state. Dreaming is for everyone. You just have to be aware of what your capabilities are. Your overall current state - be it physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically, etc., and make plans to improve out of it.

Don't fear to try baby steps. Don't be afraid to commit mistakes to improve. The better version of you starts of envisioning the "You" you've want to be. Self-awareness is the key.

Undying Love

Enclosed in a finest piece of silk
Dressed with the utmost decent clothes,
Feed with expensive meal and milk
Protected from the disastrous floods,
Storms, death and harm at stealth
Loved by a man whose willing to die if he needs
Just to ensure you'll breath.
What else will you want that he does'nt heeds?

Even you ask for more, he'll give it,
Even if he have nothing to give, he'll find one
Even if he hungered himself to provide a bit,
He'll do it just to see your frown gone.
He'll even try as hard to forget his pride,
Just to understand your needs and not be deprive,
Deprived of the worldly luxuries and joys
Just to see satisfaction in your eyes.

When your born, he isn't a man back then,
He's just a boy to me who fell in love with a hen,
But he came a man, I pictured in my dreams,
When he hold you carefully in his arms,
As if you're a porcelain that breaks,
As if you're the most beautiful thing that gleams.
I cried not because of the pain I'm suffering,
I cried to see the love from his eyes that's unnerving.

Now I both see you from the sidelines,
The church bells ringing to my ears,
I cried not just because I am very happy for you,
Not because I'm not with you all along,
Not because I haven't bond with you,
Sing with you a lullaby, tuck in you to bed,
Listened to your heartaches and achievements
I cried because of my undying love for my baby... You.

As . . .

As the scourging heat coming from the sun,
penetrates the skin of all living things
As the drops of water slowly flowing,
from the bodies of those people working
As busy vehicle roaming around,
the city to deliver passengers
As the traffic that's cause by vehicles,
emerge from the streets making people uneasy
As all of them burden's people around,
how much more than you think it might burden Him?
To Him where all we come from and owe all
To Him where who was, are and will still be
With us throughout our lifetimes forever.

Riches Out of a Dime

Every time I finish reading a story from Wattpad,
I always ask myself, does reading that story helps?
I just shrug my shoulders and think it's just for past time.
But one Wednesday, I just find myself writing on my Ipad,
About a realization from that story of my life's soon-to-be steps,
That could give me riches out of the dime.

Before that, I wondered what should I do?
To be near to my dreams,
I wonder how can I alleviate my life's conditions.
I wondered what will I sow,
To reap a good harvest of those dreams of mine that beams,
That could fulfill my life's important vision through my missions.

Now, I've realized what path I should take,
The path worthy to be taken,
The path that brings happiness to me and to others,
The path that can help me see through the vast oceans from the lake,
The path where I can't let others be forsaken,
That I think could give me riches out of a dime.

Salamat dahil binubuno mo aking isip at kalooban,

AMEN.

A Poem for God

Oh God most powerful and holy,
Who constructed life unconditionally,
The redeemer of the sins we’ve all committed,
The sanctifier, the professional healer and protector,
The Father whom we confided.

Thank you for giving us this life we’ve cherished,
For sharing us your eternal love,
For your precious time to us you’ve imparted,
For being a friend, a brother and a father.
Thank you for everything you’ve given.

Please always provide us our needs,
Give us your grace and wisdom;
Guide us to do good deeds.
Please help us to build your kingdom
In a way that we can be an aid to our brothers and sisters.

Forgive us for at times we may ignore your holy presence,
For neglecting your love’s essence.
Forgive us for our selfishness
For at times we’ve forsaken you and our brothers and sisters.
Forgive us for being tempted to sin.

Oh God, we unite ourselves to your holy plan.
We offer you all that we are.
Even if we have only a small jar,
We heartily offer you all that we have.
We entrust to you our lives forevermore.

God, you have made us wonderfully,
But sorry, for giving you a headache.
We love you, we honor you,
We want to be with you.
May you be our guide to be a gift to everyone AMEN.

Sandalan

Sabay nating alalahanin ating pagsasamahan at ating itangi.

Kaibigang tunay kayong aking maituturing,

Ilang dagat at bukid man ang ating pagitan,
Saan dako man ng mundo tayo mapadpad,

Parent's Love

What are you doing?
Where are you at the moment?
A message for the child was sent.
Focused on the phone, patiently waiting.
For a reply from the child on what he’s doing,
And where did their child’s time have spent.

Seconds runs so fast,
Minutes seems to rush,
They’re impatiently waiting,
Then they scans their phonebook that’s so vast,
Finding no time for theirself to hair brush,
Dashing to their phone, dialing.

Then their child doesn’t answer,
Their heart beats faster,
Nervous and eager to find the reason,
Why there’s no answer from their daughter or son.
Tig...dig...tig... dig....tig...dig...
Heart beats faster that seemed to dig.

Late at night their child comes home,
Like nothing happens along,
Ignoring what his parents are doing,
Walking at the stairs thinking nothing.
How painful it is for his parents,
Being treated by their own child as such.

A new morning rises,
All seems quiet and serene,
His parents are still concerned,
Of what happened at dawn,
But no explanation was heard,

Still the parents love the child unconditionally yet stirred.

You're Our Harmony

Without you life seems so lonely,
Without you there isn’t a complete family
Please stay with us forever
You’re our saviour.

You may not be as perfect as others
But you strive to care for us and be braver
You’ve fight with us through struggles
And that’s what makes us stronger.

Whenever you mention your illness
We try to paint a poker face
Just to prevent our tears and sadness
And give you a good impression that stays.

Please don’t give up on fighting
We’re all in this together
Facing strongly guided by God our Father
We’ll always keep on supporting.

You’re our family,
You’re our hero,
We love you.

You’re our harmony.

Imperfections

Perfection as they say is hard to achieve,

But it’s a thing to be build and to develop,
Like the horses in a track field gallop,
It must be consistently build to reach the top.

Perfection isn’t achievable, but excellence isn’t detrimental,
That’s why the word imperfections comes in our vision,
To let us know that attaining perfection fatal,
That’s why excellence not perfection, should be part of our mission.

Summing Up

I’m thinking of a number,
All I have now is to remember,
Remembering the tiring days,
Wishing to listen at what everyone says.

I can’t figure out how to sum my day,
I wish I could just be near the bay,
Watching the waves rolls back,
Than summing a day without luck.

Hoping my day just be as easy,
As adding one and two equals three,
Than experiencing a day that goes crazy,
Chasing it, but then it left and flee.

But then today is still essential,
It will be treated as my rehearsal;
Today is still a glimpse of tomorrow,
The day I will reap the harvest of what I sow.

My day might not be easy as Addition,
But this day will help me to post my vision,
A vision of me being victorious,
In my chosen path with terrific treasures.

Salamat

Love Story

I am dreaming of a love story that ends happily,

Like in fairytales, that ends happily ever after.
I’ve been watching movies and TV series,
It captures my attention, and then I watch it heartily.
I’m a fan of them, but then I’m reminded to be clever,
For I thought such schemes happened only in front of the screens.

I have a given those schemes a deeper thought,
And now the schemes which I fantasizes,
Is truly happening in real life situations.
Real life displays a mixture of romance, suspense or a fight,
Learned there’s no love story that has the same starts and ends,
Love stories are unique, build by two unique people in their own fashion.

Student's Oath

I may not be the greatest student of all,

But I’ll do my best to not fall,
For everything I have, comes from above,
Showered for me from God’s genuine love.

God has given me the things I need,
Through my parents hardwork and desire,
To give me a life not in burning fire,
But to a blissful life with a growing good seed.

I might be having shortcomings,
Yet, I don’t want to stay put and not work at all.
For my misfortunes are there not to stop and snatch my dreams,
But are there to teach me lessons even at the smallest hole.

Completing my promises for my part,
Isn’t just only for me, but for my parents’ hearts.
They who have strive to send me to school,
Hence, I don’t want to make them a fool.

I’ll do my best to do what’s right,
And study with all my might,
To be a gift not just for my family,
But for all the people who I do cherished truly.

Cosmos

A memorable day just ends,

The brilliant moon is cuddling us,
Sweet reveries to us it sends,
Watching it erases today’s fuss.

Diamonds hanging in the skies,
Making you wish to pick and fly,
To get in touch with the black sky,
Fly into the wide galaxies.

Oh how wonderful can it be,
To reach the cosmos flying free,
Just like the astronauts at space,
Seeing the space must be a grace.
