To be better is to be self-aware

Better. What do you mean by that? Does it mean you're inferior? Why do you say so? How can you be better, if that's the case.

We all are clamoring to live in a better life, to have that life that we dreamt of. What's your basis of a better life? We keep on comparing ourselves to other people's achievements. Oftentimes, we deny it, but we keep saying "sana all", and then afterwards chuckle with what we've said, attempting to hide the hint of jealousy.

In this digital time, the social network sites (SNS) have defined and amplified our desires to have that ideal life. Before this digital age, we are blind on how our relatives or friends in far flung places are doing. Currently, we've seen pictures, posts, reels and videos of them in SNS. But oops, people in general, only posts what they want you to see.

Say for example, you've always seen their reels of beach vibes, "pabukid", or self-loved content. It's not that they are not doing anything meaningful or in Visayan dialect and you say, "kahayahay ba sa ila kinabuhi uy, sige ra man laag, kita ani..." (how good their life is, they always roam around and enjoy, compared to us...). Always remember, you don't know what's the whole story. Maybe they just want to share with you the places they've been. Maybe they just want to document and cherish each moments by making their SNS as their digital album. Maybe they're roaming around, because they want a breather from stress.

In reality engaging in such posts, or feeling a little jealous of what other people have are not totally bad at all. Say if you've seen their posts, you'll be inspired to achieve that enjoyment, to visit places, to improve your current state. Dreaming is for everyone. You just have to be aware of what your capabilities are. Your overall current state - be it physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically, etc., and make plans to improve out of it.

Don't fear to try baby steps. Don't be afraid to commit mistakes to improve. The better version of you starts of envisioning the "You" you've want to be. Self-awareness is the key.
